In my previous post, I talked about how much I love fall fashion, specifically focusing on fall beauty. Now, I want to discuss what is arguably my favorite fall fashion staple: the leather jacket. An edgy yet sleek leather jacket is one of my go-to pieces. I have three leather jackets total, and I’d like to keep adding to that number. Leather jackets are so versatile. They can be dressed up or dressed down, and they can add some oomph to an otherwise boring outfit or give a super girly outfit a rocker vibe.
But what does a leather jacket have to do with period drama fashion? Up until recently, I had always thought nothing, but that was before I had the pleasure of watching the newest adaption of Far from the Madding Crowd.
This movie opens with the impetuously headstrong heroine, Bathsheba, riding her steed through the lush Dorset, England countryside. She is seen wearing an amazing riding costume, complete with a buttery, dark brown leather jacket. This jacket stood out to me the moment I saw Bathsheba in it. Firstly, because I adore leather jackets and, secondly, because I couldn’t recall another time that I ever saw a period drama heroine wearing one. If you can think of an instance, please let me know!
I have to admit, I typically only like black leather jackets. I’m the kind of person who wears black all the time. This non-color is probably my favorite clothing color. It manages to be both mysterious and sophisticated. Maybe I could stop wearing it all the time if someone invented a darker color! That being said, Bathsheba’s supple brown jacket has got me thinking maybe I should expand my leather jacket color preference.
As far as period drama fashion is concerned, this look is so simple to obtain. All you need is a deep brown leather jacket and a similar scarf that makes for a nice finishing touch.

By taking a page from Bathsheba’s style book, you can master fall fashion with ease. Whether it’s period drama fashion or modern day fashion, a stylish fall wardrobe is just not complete without a leather jacket and a snazzy scarf.
Have you seen this adaption of Far from the Madding Crowd? If so, how did you like it?
How do you feel about leather jackets? And what’s your own fall fashion staple?
My plane ride to London had FFTMC so I was glad to watch it. I haven’t read the book yet but I liked the film. My favourite part was listening to Carey sing. 🙂

I haven’t read the book either. I really need to take some time to do so though. The movie was great!

I’m notorious for watching the film adaptations before reading the books. 😛

I have 2…a black one that’s a blazer type and a turquoise one that’s more fitted. Love fall and everything that comes with it!

I love my leather jacket, but it’s too big. I definitely need to get a couple new ones. Hello, Christmas. I am also a huge fan of fall clothes, I love layering.

I definitely love leather jackets, and I think an oversize version of that heroine’s would fit my wardrobe well. Honestly, the thing I like most about fall is stockings. Sounds like a Presents of the Past post to me!
